Born 1951 in Mansoura, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University. After practicing medicine for eleven years, Al-Adl devoted himself to arts by starting as lyricist for Arab singers in operates such as The Arab Dream, Jerusalem Will Return to Us ...

His film career began as a dialogue and songs writer for the movie Ice cream in Geleam by Khairy Beshara, which was a great box office success in 1992. Al-Adl then wrote several screenplays for important films such as Amrika Shika Bika (1993) and Traffic Light (1995). In 1998, , he had a significant role in the change of Egyptian cinema path by eliminating of B-movies and commercial film, when he wrote the smash comedy An Upper-Egyptian in the American University produced by Al-Adl Group. Other scripts for  successful films followed like Hammam in Amsterdam, A Short, a T-shirt and A Cap, Friend or Business and Mafia that received Best Screenplay Award from the Egyptian Film Society. Dr. Medhat Al-Adl was also Jury Member at the 34th Cairo Film Festival.
